MC-i400 Industrial Controller
Preemptive kernel control for real-time PLC performance — purpose-built for gas turbine control and other demanding power generation applications, with CODESYS multicore tasks and VersaCore Historian.
Overview
The MC-i400 is the real-time performance controller in the MC Series. It is equipped with a preemptive kernel tuned for real-time PLC performance — the platform HSI positions for gas turbine control and other generation workloads that need tighter, more deterministic control loops than a general-purpose entry-level edge unit.
Like the MC-A200, it runs open CODESYS control and takes advantage of multicore PLC tasks — including task cycles that are easily run at 1 ms — for high price-to-performance ratios. With Beckhoff I/O over EtherCAT, field I/O runs in lock step with the PLC application. The MC-i400 delivers that stack on a higher-capability OnLogic Karbon 430 platform with more networking, storage, and headroom for complex plant applications and VersaCore edge historization.
Choose the MC-i400 when real-time behavior, multi-network connectivity, and generation-grade control matter. For entry-level package and general automation duty, see the MC-A200.
Key Benefits
Preemptive real-time kernel
Kernel configuration aimed at real-time PLC performance for demanding control loops — not a general-purpose office OS workload.
Gas turbine ready
Positioned for gas turbine control applications and related generation packages where cycle time and control fidelity matter.
CODESYS multicore · 1 ms tasks
IEC 61131-3 runtime with multicore PLC tasks — concurrent control workloads and task cycles easily run at 1 ms for high price-to-performance control.
EtherCAT lock-step I/O
Combine with Beckhoff I/O over EtherCAT and the fieldbus runs in lock step with the PLC application — deterministic I/O scan aligned to the control task.
Multi-network capacity
Four Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual serial interfaces for distributed I/O and multi-segment plant networks.
Large local storage
High-capacity SSD for on-premises history, applications, and edge workloads — pair with VersaCore without forced cloud dependency.
Rugged industrial platform
OnLogic Karbon 430 hardware intended for harsh industrial environments and continuous plant duty.

Where MC-i400 Fits
- Gas turbine control and related generation packages
- Real-time PLC loops that outgrow entry-level controllers
- Multi-segment plant networks and multi-protocol gateways
- High-volume local logging with VersaCore at the edge
MC-i400 vs MC-A200
Both platforms use CODESYS multicore PLC tasks (including cycles easily run at 1 ms) for high price-to-performance ratios, and both support Beckhoff I/O over EtherCAT running in lock step with the PLC application. Pick by control class:
- MC-i400 — preemptive kernel, real-time PLC performance, gas turbine and demanding generation control
- MC-A200 — entry-level platform for general industrial automation and package control
